Disney pixar’s Loop

When watching ‘Can you tell if someone has Autism?’ they were asked if they thought autism was represented well in media and one of the films that came up which everyone agreed showed how it feels to be autistic was Disney pixar’s ‘Loop’.

When watching this film I could really understand how the character was feeling at all times. She was non-verbal. She used sounds to help calm herself down. It focused a lot on how her senses were affecting her. The whole short film was on a boat, and when it would rock, her reactions would change. When they were different sounds she would get overwhelmed and she would use her phone which played a different sounds to help calm herself down. There was also a really beautiful scene where she moved her hand across long grass as they floated past. Her reaction to this was complete peace, and as they moved further away from the grass, she got upset. The other character recognised this and moved her closer to it again. I felt this really clearly showed how the nature around her was helping her to communicate. I really enjoyed this film, I took a lot of inspiration from it.

Knowing that I want to set my film outside of a summer house I feel this would work really well as it will allow me to keep it all in a confined space but also be able to use nature and show how it really helps people with autism.
